Renowned Uruguayan researcher Luis Seguessa arrived in Mendoza to share a talk about Global Alert 2012, a conference held at Universidad de Congreso in which he presented the reasons for his belief that the planet is undergoing a profound crisis of excessive consumption that could leave us without oxygen in less than 40 years.

"The internal combustion engine of automobiles is the main cause," said Seguessa, who has been researching these issues since his youth and presides over the Fundación Códigos to spread this message. In the conference, Seguessa presented to the attendees the evidence and testimonies that concern researchers about this Global Alert.

This talk has been given in different cities around the world since 2008. "We are convinced that a change, a recovery, is still possible. Otherwise, we wouldn't be doing this," the researcher stated.

In the talk given yesterday, sponsored by Champagnat University and the UNO Medios Foundation, Seguessa elaborated on the need for a change in automobile engine technology and what each individual can do to contribute to reducing the excessive consumption of oxygen.

"We need to look for a propulsion system that doesn't emit gases and doesn't consume as much oxygen or oil, as the gases contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Additionally, oil extraction leads to more earthquakes and volcanic eruptions," explained Seguessa.
