The Uruguayan researcher Luis Seguessa stated that the depletion of the ozone layer is caused by the air consumption of combustion engines. The ozone layer is not only a reservoir of oxygen but also a natural blanket that protects us from the immense cold of outer space and the intense heat of the sun.
By losing this blanket, we are experiencing abrupt temperature changes within a single day, and this will only worsen, noted Seguessa during a meeting held in the city of Mar del Plata.
Twenty billion liters of air are consumed per second on the planet, and this is returned to the atmosphere partially burned and in an explosive form. Twenty percent of this is oxygen taken from the ozone layer. The volume is so immense that vegetation cannot replenish this loss in time.
The rate of ozone depletion is occurring at a geometric progression, not an arithmetic one as commonly believed, and in a very short time, the ozone layer—our planet's main natural oxygen supply—will be exhausted.
For this reason, Seguessa proposed to automotive companies the replacement of combustion engines with electric engines that do not consume air and encouraged people to plant at least seven trees during their lifetime.
